KARACHI: In a meeting convened by the Karachi Port Trust (KPT) on Wednesday, shipping lines agreed to withdraw the proposed port congestion surcharge on containers handled by two private terminals at the port. The KPT invited all stakeholders to the meeting to take stock of ground realities and sort out the issue of port congestion surcharge, which was being proposed by shipping lines. Lengthy deliberation among All Pakistan Ship Agents Association (APSAA), shipping lines, Customs and KPT officials transpired that the Karachi Port and its two private terminals were not facing any congestion. Participants also decided to keep holding such stakeholder meetings to avoid confusion in the future. The KPT officials also assured the shipping lines of enough space to accommodate containers of both terminals in the case of congestion at the terminals.
